Scan gallery

A rural scene painted by Svay Ken in 1994
I paid a visit to the Scandinavia Hotel today, a 16-room boutique hotel in Boeung Keng Kang, here in Phnom Penh, just for a look around to see if it will be suitable for clients of Hanuman. The owners of the Scan Hotel host their own gallery and exhibitions from time to time and I noticed three paintings on view that were worth posting here. Two of them are by the elder statesman of Cambodian painting, Svay Ken, who died last week. These paintings of rural scenes were completed in 1994 and 1995 respectively. The third painting is a stylized-portraiture of two of Cambodia's legendary singing superstars, Sinn Sisamouth and Ros Sereysothea, both of whom died during the Pol Pot years.
