New year resolution

This has not been seen for nearly three months
As the new year approaches, one of the things near the top of my 'to-do' list (maybe even a 2009 resolution) is to get back into playing football on a regular basis. A skin infection which seriously compromised my eyes has left me sidelined for much of the last three months and though it now looks to have finally disappeared, it means the level of fitness I had reached - it's a debatable point as to whether that level had been anything other than 'unfit' - has now receded. I know that when I return to footy practice I'll be blowing out of my arse again. In addition, I was still getting used to playing with my special football goggles, which I imported from the UK rather than taking up wearing contact lenses again, which I always found extremely irritating. The goggles at least allow me to distinquish my own teammates from the opposition - though if you saw my pass success rate you might question that statement - but I found they can get a mite foggy on a really hot and humid day (we get a lot of those over here), and I need mini windscreen wipers when it rains, but if you don't try these things, you'll never know. A final thought on the subject, if I look like that when I run with the ball - I look like a puppet - maybe it's time to call it a day anyway!

I'll second that resolution Andy, I need to get off my chair and out of the office! I'm not sure about football but I might aim at trying one of those 5K runs.

good luck J, running 5K ranks alongside trekking in the jungle and mountain-biking as things I least want to do. I used to do lots of cross-country running when I was a teenager and ran for my county/province but it was never something that I enjoyed, whereas football I could until the cows come home, and frequently did.
