Hagar well worth a visit

One of the restaurants in Phnom Penh that I have no hesitation in recommending is the Hagar restaurant on Street 288 in the NGO-quarter of the city, Boeung Keng Kang 1. It's upmarket decor, nicely prepared and reasonably priced meals and its friendly staff make it a definite on my 'places to dine' when I'm in the capital. $6 for a 3-course evening meal is excellent value by anyone's standard but the tasty cuisine I've been presented with on my visits makes it fantastic value for money in my book.

The restaurant is one of the projects operated by the organization Hagar, who focus their efforts on assisting women and children in Cambodia who are dealing with serious crises in their lives, as well as those who are the most vulnerable and at risk. Founded in 1994, Hagar is a Swiss-based Christian development organization which has been helping Cambodia’s disadvantaged women and children by giving them a second chance to rebuild their lives through a range of integrated social and economic projects. Their projects and businesses focus on the prevention, rehabilitation and reintegration of women, mothers and children who have been abused, abandoned, trafficked and impoverished. The projects and businesses also operate together to integrate the spiritual, educational, social and economic needs of vulnerable women and children. You can find out more about the organization and their varied projects here.
