Recommended Cambodia Travel Company

hanuman

Hanuman has been at the forefront of tourism development in the kingdom of Cambodia since the company began life as a travel consultancy in 1990. Today it is one of the most trusted tour operators and remains, true to its origins, locally-owned and locally-operated. The senior staff at the company have a decade and a half of experience running innovative and imaginative tours to every corner of the kingdom. No-one knows Cambodia quite like Hanuman, as no other company has explored the country in such depth, travelling to the furthest reaches of the most remote provinces in order to bring the best of Cambodia to the world. While the senior staff at the big regional travel companies come and go, our senior staff are here for the long haul and that is reflected in their intimate knowledge of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

The company expanded rapidly during the United Nations time in Cambodia. During this period, we were responsible for the ticketing and travel arrangements of more than 7,500 troops and personnel working for the United Nations. Following the 1993 elections, the Ministries of Tourism and Commerce established regulations for travel operators and agents in the Kingdom of Cambodia. Legitimate operators were issued with licenses and Hanuman Tourism-Voyages was among the first to be awarded one in early-1994. As well as our main office in Phnom Penh, we have operated a branch office in Siem Reap called Hanumanalaya since 1992.

A new addition to the company came in 1998 with the opening of Hanuman Fine Arts Shop in Phnom Penh, offering the best in antiques and arts from Cambodia and the wider region. In 2000, Hanuman Films (www.hanumanfilms.com) was launched as a television and film servicing company and was selected as the partner for Paramount Pictures for the making of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in Cambodia. More recently in 2004, we opened our very own hotel in Siem Reap, Hanumanalaya (www.hanumanalaya.com), Angkor’s boutique guesthouse.

2006 witnessed the birth of Hanuman Lao, the latest division of the ever-growing Hanuman family. After much consideration, we decided to open an office in Vientiane, the Lao capital, in a prime place on the riverfront, with views across the Mekong. We have our own dedicated Hanuman team looking after the Lao operation and have handpicked our own tour guides and hotels and restaurants that suit our philosophy. Travel with a personal touch has at last come to Lao.

Hanuman has partners from every corner of the globe and this includes some of the most discerning clients in the world. Hanuman is proud to represent some of the most respected names in the business and look after their guests in the kingdom of Cambodia and beyond. Our partners, numbering more than 150 in over 30 countries, trust us for our speed of service, our clarity in communication, our reliability in delivering and, above all, our care and attention to detail. Travel with a personal touch is our company philosophy and every guest is welcomed as a friend.

Not only is Hanuman an innovator in Cambodia, developing exciting new concepts such as Temple Safari, which brings the luxury of African bush camping to the remote temples of the north, and Mekong Journey, which follows the course of the mighty river from the Golden Triangle down to the delta in Vietnam, but we believe tourism has a role to play in furthering economic development in poor, rural areas. Hanuman consistently promotes and supports community tourism activities and pro-poor tourism industries. Hanuman will continue to support these projects and strive to create further opportunities for the rural poor by taking visitors into remote areas to discover the real Cambodia. The Hanuman Foundation was born in 2006 to take this commitment to the next level.

The transformation of Hanuman into the dynamic company it is today has been achieved thanks to the hard work, dedication and commitment of its staff. Our staff has grown from a Mother and daughter team in 1990 to as many as 100 today in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. But we have the desire to continue our growth, expanding our market share and our personal touch philosophy to the neighbouring countries of Laos and Vietnam. We will continue to innovate, developing new products for the discerning traveller to ensure our tours remain ahead of the competition. We want to make a name for ourselves in the Mekong region, a local company with international standards, competing on level terms with the biggest players in the business. Whatever the future brings, we will not lose touch with our founding philosophy, that of travel with a personal touch, which ensures that all our guests are treated to a journey which will enrich their lives forever.

I joined Hanuman in late 2007 and look forward to helping you experience the wonders of the Mekong Region, with that personal touch which Hanuman has become synonymous with.

Regards, Andy Brouwer
